Questions about your animated likes

I would like to get some activity going, so here are some questions/discussion starters. (hopefully) I hope I'm not overstepping any boundaries by doing this.

1. What is one of your favorite animated films growing up that is from a foreign country, if there is one?

2. What are five of your favorite animated films and why do you like them?

3. Do you like any web cartoons? If so, what are they?

4. Do you watch anime? If so, name some of your favorite anime.

5. What are five cartoons that you grew up with that you still enjoy?

Yeah, I loved it when I was a kid!!! Watched it again, recently, and some scenes are ... yeah ... Some of the magic is gone, but I'm still fond of it :'D

I want to say I was really into movies like that, but I can only think of Fern Gully??

1. man, i dont know if i even had any foreign animated favorites growing up... seeing as Winnie the Pooh is pretty well Americanized...

2. I kept crying during Wall-E, at the silent part in the beginning, because the animation was just so pretty I was overwhelmed. Honestly, all the major Pixar films could be on here. Except Cars, fuck a Cars.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the most technically fucknuts movie of all time.
I'll fight people over Lion King. It's a masterpiece, shit is Shakespearean.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind has to be on here. It's hard to pick just one Miyazaki for sure, but.
And Fantasia 2000 because if I don't love it who will damn it

3. I. Love. Homestar. Runner. and you can take that shit. to the bank.
I also used to watch Red vs Blue, but I lost track of it awhile ago.

4. [tosses aside curtain to reveal a creepy shrine to Revolutionary Girl Utena] come here and stay still i need to tell you about this show. stop running you only delay the inevitable.
I also enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist back in the days during the first series. Haven't seen Brotherhood yet, should really get on that.
I used to love Yu Yu Hakusho but like. Endless tournament arcs really wear you down.

5. I loved Invader Zim as a kid, and I still love Homestar Runner, which was probably the other formative one.

1. Pretty much grew up on Disney, didn't get to see any foreign animations until recently. Always looking for recs, though!

2. Rise of the Guardians - love the visuals & in-universe lore, but it's also a sentimental favorite that keeps inspiring me. Song of the Sea - so pretty??? so emotional??? I cry every time!! The Secret of NIMH - nostalgia, love the old(er) animation and slightly creepy vibe. Spirited Away - my fav Ghibli film, love anything that deals with spirits tbh. Kung Fu Panda 2 - it's fun & always makes me happy, while still having emotional punches???

3. Web cartoons like how Bee & Puppycat started on the web? Or is that something else??? Either way, probably yes? I've got a bunch of stuff bookmarked ... just need to find the time to go through them :'D

4. Yep, but mostly magical girl stuff like Princess Tutu, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight. Also stuff like Mob Psycho 100, FMA:B, and xxxHOLIC.

5. Toons I grew up with and still enjoy? Um ... Batman TAS, Justice League ... I think that's it. Haven't really rewatched any but those ^^;

Oh will do :O thanks!!! I'll add those to my list lol

I'm mostly a Batman fan, but I loved the JLU versions of everyone ( especially Martian Manhunter! )

1. When I was growing up, I'd usually only get one chance to see any given animated film as this was before there were VCR's. Ergo, I nominate Fantastic Planet, which I saw only once but liked a lot. I think it was a short that played before Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

2. The big 5: Bambi (the best film Disney ever made and such a high water mark that it took Disney over 40 years to make another film approaching that artistic quality).
The Secret of NIMH (astounding art that deserves to be poed over frame by frame. I think TSoN is what kicked Disney out of making cheapo xerox-cel animation.)
The Land Before Time (Bambi with dinosaurs)
Princess Monoke (art!)
Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron (For the art, but with Matt Damon's droning narration and Bryan Adams songs muted)

3. Web cartoons: Bitey of Brackenwood on Newgrounds and the Pony.mov series (horrible, grotesque, eye-searing satire, it's just... words fail me)

4. Anime. I watched a bunch of Kimba the White Lion and a big chunk of Dragonball? A few episodes of Card Captor Sakura (because someone did a beautiful Derpy Hooves parody of the intro). A lot of Pokemon. Mostly I haven't watched anime because of the heavy use of animation shortcuts, but I did like Ulysses 31 a lot, for the story. Ulysses 31 was a Japan/France production and I watched it in the original French, on broadcast TV. Movie wise: Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Akira, Spirited Away.

5. Five cartoons: Warner Brothers Loony Toons (before they were censored), Rocky and Bullwinkle, Pink Panther (rolled into The New Pink Panther Show plus the Blue Aardvark), Underdog, Mighty Mouse.
frith: Violet unicorn cartoon pony with a blue mane (FIM Twilight friendly)

It took some time to remember all these old titles but it was fun! ^_^

I know this post is old, but I've only joined this community recently, so I hope it's not a problem to reply?

1) I'm from Brazil, so Disney does qualify as foreign to me, but I guess I'll mention something that is from my country? I really loved the Monica's Gang comics, so when the film Turma da Mônica em Uma Aventura No Tempo (I don't know if it has an English title/dub...) came out, that became one of my favorite movies. Otherwise, I mostly grew with Disney, so that's the only unique thing I can remember.

2) Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid (I've watched those two films for the first time when I was already a teenager, but fell in love with the animation and the songs), Lion King 2 (I loved the Lion King films, but the second one was my favorite! I really loved Kovu and Kiara's relationship), Brother Bear 2 (I loved the first film as well, but I found myself watching the second one more often) and When Marnie Was There (I relate to Anna, and honestly I can't watch this film without crying.)

3) Not really.

4) I love anime! I haven't watched any new anime lately, but some I watched and liked are Pokémon (though I've only watched the Kanto~Sinnoh seasons), Digimon, Card Captor Sakura, Tokyo Mew Mew, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS, Shugo Chara!, Hamtaro, Tokimeki Tonight, and Sexy Commando Gaiden. I mostly watched Magical Girl anime, haha.

5) Dungeons & Dragons (it's still one of my favorite cartoons ever!), Phineas & Ferb and Arthur come to mind.

For me anything is fine! I'd love to see/talk about stuff from my childhood (besides the shows/films I mentioned, a lot of Cartoon Network shows) but I'd also love to hear recommendations on what to watch, for example. ^^
